tolivaIn his first few years as a plaintiff’s attorney Tom recovered over $35 million dollars in verdicts, mediations and settlements on behalf of his client’s! The son of Cuban and Puerto Rican parents he was born and raised in the Harlem / Washington Heights area. Tom graduated from City College and from the Hofstra University School of Law. He co-founded the Latino Law Student Association at Hofstra Law School with the Hon. Justice Sallie Manzinet-Daniels.. He served for four years in the Bronx District Attorneys Office and was a partner at a major negligence defense firm for many years.

 

Tom is a partner at the personal injury firm of The Law Offices of Thoms M. Oliva & Associates. The primary focus of his practice are major catastrophic injuries due to either medical negligence or personal injury, birth injuries, failure to diagnose cancer, construction site accidents, defective elevators, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, lead-paint exposure, and other general negligence accidents.

 

Tom has been included in the New York edition of Super Lawyers from 2014 through 2016. In a ranking of legal professionals, the independent organization Avvo has given Tom an Avvo rating of 9.2 out of 10. He is on the Board of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County, the Puerto Rican Bar Association and is on the Board of Editors of the prestigious New York Law Journal. He has lectured on the law at the New York County Trial Lawyers Assoc., Corporation Counsel of the City of New York, Hofstra University School of Law and at CUNY Law School. He was honored as the Latino Lawyer of the Year and has received a special commendation from the City Council for his service to the Latino Community.
